Hello there, Superwoman, aka Susan Strayer!!!

Susan Strayer is a Mother, Reader, Writer, Outdoorsy being, and a Snowboarder (woman after my own heart!)  She loves the outdoors whether that be camping, hiking, or seeing beautiful places.  However, the outdoor recreation to trump them all for her is snowboarding.  (Did I say she’s a woman after my own heart already?)  The thrill of making turns through soft, fluffy powder is pure joy to Susan, but when she does find herself indoors, she likes reading and blogging at MountainMomandTots.com.

Being at home with her kids is something she’s always wanted and blogging enables her to be successful at this.  There’s much to be said for being a stay at home mom and to still feel challenged intellectually. It’s not an easy road to live the life they’ve chosen considering it’s not full of champagne dreams and caviar wishes, but she enjoys writing and is actually working on a full length book. Success for Susan Strayer:  Being able to live the way you want. For me that fluctuates between alpine adventures with my kids based out of our mountain cabin (where we live now) and full time traveling with my husband and kids.

Let’s hear more from Susan:

What can you do today that you could not do a year ago?

I can take my entire family on a bike ride thanks to my oldest two learning how to ride and my youngest riding in the bike trailer. It’s opened up all sorts of new possibilities.

What would you regret not doing?

I’ve always wanted to watch sea turtles hatch and make their way to sea. I haven’t gotten there yet, and if I never do I think I’d regret it. Maybe this year…

When was the last time you traveled somewhere new?

Summer of 2016 my family of five (two adults, a 7, 4 and 1 year old) traveled the National Park to Park Highway. We visited over 20 National Parks and Monuments and drove 7,000+ miles through seven western states in about seven weeks. And we camped out of our truck most of the way.

Have you done anything lately worth remembering?

Traveling the National Park to Park Highway.

What are you doing to pursue your dreams right now?

Blogging my butt off, downsizing my possessions, and appreciating where I’m at right now.

What are you most scared of?

Gut wrenching loneliness – like what I would feel if I lost my spouse or child.

What are you most proud of?

My kids. They are amazing, especially when they learn something new, or surprise me with their tenderness. The other day I overheard my 7 year old son tell my daughter, “You have to. That’s a life skill.” It was a phrase he’s heard me say over and over. It’s nice to know he was listening.

Where would you like to live?

Where I live now, or in a camper trailer/motor home full time.

If you left your current life in order to pursue your dreams, what would you lose?

Stability. But mostly I am living my dreams.

What bad habits do you want to break?

Procrastinating, especially when it comes to learning new skills like figuring out computer software.

If you were someone’s life coach, what would you tell them?

Get outdoors every day. Set goals. Smile. And give yourself a break every once and awhile.

Fun and furious questions:

1. If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?  Yes, but only the small things. I wouldn’t have bought the expensive mountain bike and I would’ve started writing sooner.

2. How old would you be, if you didn’t know how old you are?  28 with the wisdom of a 70 year old

3 .What activity makes you lose track of time?  Reading and Snowboarding

4. Best cheat indulgence?  I don’t believe in diets. They are evil. So if you’re referring to a food related indulgence I can’t really answer because all foods can be part of a healthy lifestyle. However if you’re talking about what I like to do to pamper myself I’d have to say hang out with friends.

5.  If you could only speak one word today, what would it be?  Please. A lot of times it feels like that’s the word I say the most anyway. Please stop yelling at your sister. Please do your chores. What do you say when you want something? Please.
